Tehran's interim Friday Prayers Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ahmad Khatami, has castigated the US and Europe for taking advantage of the developments in Libya.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Referring to recent uprisings in Islamic countries, Ayatollah Khatami said the Libyan people were bombarded by the Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi's forces for thirty days before the very eyes of the US and Europe. But, the US and Europe did not enter the scene. Meanwhile, their recent military interference has taken place solely for fulfillment of their own interests.

The military interference of the US and its Western allies continues in Libya, while the informed sources in this country say that during these attacks at least 114 people, including a significant number of civilians, have been killed and 445 others have been wounded.

Tehran interim Friday Prayer leader also slammed the muted reaction of the US and other so-called supporters of human rights in regard to suppression of popular protests in a number of Middle Eastern countries, including Bahrain.

“The West, the US in particular, always makes instrumental use of the issue of human rights but it should be noted that they only care about their [own] interests,” Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami said on Friday.

The Iranian cleric singled out US President Barack Obama and criticized his political stance toward the uprisings in Bahrain, Yemen and other Arab nations.

“Obama is lying about entering 'Libya to save the people of this country,'” he said. “The US unleashes dictators on people to kill them and then enters the scene under the guise of savoir,” Ayatollah Khatami argued.

Tehran's interim Friday Prayers leader went on to point to efforts by Western media outlets to distort the reality of the people's revolt in Bahrain.

“This uprising pursues the same objectives as the uprising of the people of Egypt and Libya,” he added.

Ayatollah Khatami criticized the Bahraini and Western media blackout on the civilian death toll from Manama's brutal crackdown on people and lashed out at neighboring Saudi Arabia for its military invasion of Bahrain with the aim of quelling protests in the country.

The cleric emphasized that the revolution in Bahrain is not a matter of Shia and Sunni and condemned decrees (fatwas) by extremist Wahhabi leaders who permit spilling the blood of their 'opponents and their families.'

“Don't think that killing and massacre will sustain your rule,” Ayatollah Khatami addressed the Al Saud family. “Every drop of blood that is shed from an innocent will bring you closer to downfall,” he warned.

The Bahraini security forces have largely suppressed the anti-governmental demonstrations, martyring at least 25 people.

The Manama administration has also recruited Saudi, Kuwaiti, and UAE troopers for suppression of protesters.
